Children in the Poppy room are aged between eighteen months and two and a half years.

The children in this room are more dependant and are able to help prepare the activities. As we try and teach the children colours they will help to mix the paint at the sink ready for the painting activity or help fill the water tray / sand tray.

We also encourage the children to help more with the tidying away of activities, finding the correct box to put the toys in or coordinating a dust pan and brush to sweep up the sand.

Staff in the Poppy room help to develop the concentration span of the children by encouraging them to complete an activity which they start. Stories are a little longer, with a proper story line as opposed to the picture books we would have used in the previous groups.

There is an area of the room that is fenced off if children feel they would like a rest or a sleep after lunch, some children in this group no longer require a day time sleep and they can continue to play.

The children spend some time each day participating in physical activities either in the garden or in our soft play room. Part of the garden is undercover which allows the children to let off steam and get some fresh air even on rainy days.
