Children in this group are aged three years, they are in this group until they start school.

The staff in this group work closely with our teacher from early years towards the EYFS “Early years foundation stage”

The children in this group are encouraged to be as independent as possible. The children take part in activities that interest them, they are also allowed to choose the toys that they want to play with and the planning is based around the individual child.

The bathroom is accessible from the group room and children can use the bathroom as they need, upon completing creative activities the children can wash their hands at the sinks.

Staff spend time each day with children working on a one to one basis at the computer, or using their work books for writing practice. To begin the children copy over writing that the staff have done, as they become more able they write underneath the staff writing, this leads on to the children writing their own sentences. We would hope that all children are able to write their own name before they start school.

Sunflower children have access to two of our play rooms. One being for creative activities, floor toys and table top toys then there is a smaller room where the children have quiet times, role play, stories, learning times and discussion times.

The children have some time each day in the garden where they can take part in organised activities or make up their own games and some time in our soft play room.

At meal times the children are encouraged to choose their own meal and help to set the table, serve the meal and clear the plates away. Juice or water is available at all times during the day where the children can sit at the table, take their cup, and pour themselves a drink.

When playing games the staff are on hand to ensure the rules of play are followed however, the children are allowed to develop their organisation skills and play games in small groups.
